Notice & Name the 6S Focus Areas of a Blended Data Culture in Action
RBL Director of Instruction and RBL PM (Cisco ISD) describes her district’s journey in building a data culture
Step 1 (20 minutes): Group identify and discuss common themes. This is an opportunity for teachers and leaders to identify and discuss areas of consensus and disagreement in order to become aligned around strengths and areas for improving the data culture
Strengths: What stands out to you as the area(s) of strength for your campus or across the pilot campuses)?
Growth: What stands out to you as the top area(s) for growth for your campus (or across the pilot campuses)?
Priority: Which conditions are most important for your campus (or campuses) to get right / focus on adapting and improving?
Step 3 (20 minutes): Agree to Next Steps
What is your group most committed to getting done and why? Re-visit the 6 Data Shifts from Module 1 and discuss as a group based on your pilot campus team reflections. Get as specific as possible about what specifically you will commit to doing (as a teacher, as a campus leader, as a campus to make progress on this step).
Realize difference between assessment vs. data literacy and shift to multiple measures;
Emphasize growth assessments which illuminate student progress on multiple grade level standards;
Prioritize more frequent assessments useful for informing ongoing instruction;
Enhance culture of transparency and trust (safe space);
Provide time for teachers to analyze data and plan instructional responses;
Work to improve DDI practices and teachers data literacy skills.
How will pilot teachers, campus leaders and district leaders work together to accomplish the priorities you identified?
