Room 19

Welcome to 2023 Room 19!

Dear Room 19

Happy new year! I trust you've had a relaxing break over the summer and are looking forward to being back at school. For those of you whom I haven't met, here's a little bit about me.

I'm AnneMaree Breen and I've worked at Cashmere Avenue since 2013. I’m married to Glenn. We have two children, Kate (23) and Morgan (19). Kate lives in Wellington, and Morgan lives in Trentham at the army barracks. Glenn and I live in Delhi Crescent. I grew up in McNab which is near Gore, the eldest of 11 children. When I finished school (Form 7) I went to Dunedin Teachers’ College and Otago University and became a teacher. A few years later I also went to Canterbury University to complete a Masters in Education.

Our children both went to Onslow Kindergarten, Cashmere Avenue School, The British School in the Netherlands, and Onslow College. Morgan also went to Raroa.

I’ve been teaching since 1987. My career has been a very rewarding one, I’ve taught in Blenheim, Christchurch, The Hague, and Wellington. The roles I’ve had have been varied from classroom teacher to assistant principal to principal to part-time teacher to reliever and now classroom teacher again.

What sort of teacher am I? Firm, fair and fun. I love being able to teach in an 'agentic' manner, where children share the ownership of their learning with me. I do have favourites - subjects that is! Maths and Inquiry. Over the past couple of years, I’ve been learning about how to create great literacy programmes. In particular, I’ve come to love teaching writing and I look forward to continuing this with you in Room 19.

This year I’ll be working four days a week. This is so I can get better at golf! I’m so pleased that Susan is working with you on the day I’m not here. We plan a lot together, she has fantastic ideas and knows lots about you from her CRT time with you.

I’m looking forward to working with all of you.

Yours sincerely

AnneMaree
