Why is my website getting blocked?

From Rob: This contains three useful tools to help you determine why a particular website might get blocked.

In all cases, what helps us most is having a screenshot of the blocked page, to include the full web address. A site might get blocked based on the category (see below), content, reputation, and other factors. Given the dynamic nature of the Internet, a site that is blocked today might be allowed tomorrow or vice versa, especially if the site gets compromised (hacked).

1. Here are examples of blocked pages you should see if our web filter, GoGuardian, blocks a page.

https://help.goguardian.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005683486-Types-of-GoGuardian-Block-Pages

2. Here is a list of the categories available to us in GoGuardian. Intended for employees only, this list includes whether a site is blocked/allowed for employees/students. At times sites are available to teachers but blocked for students. This resource might help understand why this happens.

3. Finally, sometimes other systems just run slowly or go down completely. Use this link to access status pages for commonly-used major services:

https://caschools.us/status/

Note: With rare exceptions, students using school-issued Chromebooks should have exactly the same filtering/access in place regardless of whether they are at school or at home.

There are many reasons a website might get blocked. There is always an explanation, assuming we have enough time to look for one.
