Our library has both a black and white and color printer available for your use. Check out the additional resources below that are available to you through our library. Many of these resources have opportunities for collaboration with the library media specialist.
Our school system is fortunate to have a class set of Ozobots that can be used to engage students with the material you are teaching. If you are unfamiliar with Ozobots, watch the video on the left to see what Ozobots are and how they can be used in the classroom. Ozobots can be used with any grade level of students. Last school year, a class of first graders used the Ozobots to retell fairytales. The online Ozobot Classroom (click here) has a collection of many lesson ideas that can be printed and used in the classroom. You can create a free account to access these lesson plans. The library can partner with you to co-teach a lesson involving Ozobots. Contact Mrs. Johnston for more information!
Some ideas for using Ozobots in the classroom include:
Reading/ELA
Retelling stories
Identifying Sounds
Enrichment Activities for Class Read-Alouds (i.e. After reading How to Catch a Turkey, have students create a turkey trap with their Ozobot)
Closed and Open Syllables
Upper and Lowercase Letters
Math

And many more!
Our library has 2 official BreakoutEdu Boxes and 3 parent-made boxes that can be used to enhance learning in your classroom. Think of these as escape rooms that you bring into your classroom. Instead of students trying to escape, they are trying to break in to their boxes. Breakout activities can be found through a simple Google search, on Teacherspayteachers.com or through the BreakoutEdu website (click here).
Breakout activities can be done in any subject area with nearly any topic. The library can assist with setting your activity up, managing locks, and co-teaching lessons where breakout boxes are used.
See the video on the left for an idea of how BreakoutEdu boxes can be used in your classroom.
Our library has a padcaster that can be checked out and used for your class projects. The padcaster kit includes an iPad, tripod, microphones, teleprompter, lights, greenscreen and more. The padcaster has been used to record weather reports, book talks, broadcasts, and class video newsletters. This kit can be used in many different ways to enhance student learning. The library can partner with you as you use the padcaster in your classroom by providing training on using the padcaster for you and your students, recording individual student projects, as well as video editing and publishing. Email Mrs. Johnston if you have any questions or ideas about using the padcaster.
The library can help to secure author visits for your class or grade level either in person or via Zoom. If you have read a book to your students that they really loved, they may benefit from hearing directly from that author. Let me know if this is something you would be interested in. An example of an author visit from last year is on the left. This visit was with Corinne Demas.
Are you starting a unit on a specific topic and would like your students to gain background knowledge first? Doing a research project and need quality reference materials for their research? I would be happy to compile a cart, stack, or list of library materials that suits your specific needs. I can also compile a list of online resources that may help. Just send me an email with what you need.
If your class has earned a movie day or you would like to show a movie to reinforce a topic you are teaching, the library may have just what you need. We have a great collection of movies on DVD that are licensed to be shown in your classroom. Send me an email and I can pull one for you or stop by the library to browse the movie shelf.
If you have plans for your students to work on a research project during the school year, let the librarian know! I can work with your students during their class library time on research skills like choosing reliable sources, informational texts, text features, facts vs. opinions, paraphrasing, citing sources, and more.
