Acting

Intro to Theatre (JHS 7-8, No Prerequisite, Repeatable)

Come and learn what theatre is all about! In this class, students will have a brief introduction to all aspects of theatre - including acting and technical theatre. You will learn how a theatre is run and learn about each role that must be filled to make the magic of a live production happen.

Intro to Acting (HS 9-12, No Prerequisite)

This beginning acting class focuses on voice, body, and imagination as the key elements of acting. Students will thoroughly explore these three categories through improvisational scene work, theatre games, and scripted scene work. As students work their way through the course, they will learn a variety of concepts to help build upon their growing acting skills.

Advanced Acting 1 (HS 9-12, Prerequisite – Beginning Acting,  Repeatable)

In this class, students will explore a specific skill set in the theatre that may include Dialects for the Stage, Shakespeare, Commedia dell’ Arte, or modern acting techniques of Stanislavski and Meisner (yearly rotation). The class will involve individual and group performances, and students may also prepare pieces for the Regional Acting Competition.

Advanced Acting 2 (HS 9-12, Prerequisite – Intermediate Acting, Repeatable)

Students will be cast in a full-length production where they will practice the skill set taught in the current year Intermediate Acting class. This class will be focused on character building and rehearsal for the production. Being part of this class requires that you dedicate time outside of class for the production. This will include at least three (3) after school tech/dress rehearsals and 6-8 evening performances. Dates and times will be provided at the beginning of the trimester.

Musical Theatre (HS 9-12, No Prerequisite)

Explore and perform the vocal techniques and movement of musical theatre. This is a song and dance class. All students in this class will prepare musical theatre songs (solos or duets), group dance numbers, and go through a mock musical theatre audition. Actors may also choose to use their pieces in the Regional Acting Competition.
