Course description
The course seeks to introduce the students to the study of the ELT curriculum. To start off, it will deal with the definition of curriculum and its relationship to the syllabus. Subsequently, it will highlight the main phases of the curriculum cycle (i.e. planning, design, implementation, analysis, assessment, and improvement) as well as its key agents and variables, and their rationales (e.g. needs analysis/assessment, goals and objectives, testing, materials, etc.). After that, the course will compare different types of ELT approaches to learning and teaching English, and how they are translated into curricula and materials. Throughout the course, students will relate the exposés, readings, and discussions to the Omani school curriculum for English.
