Purpose:
The Carolina TESOL Teacher of the Year award was created to celebrate and recognize the outstanding work that TESOL educators dedicate to multilingual learners in and out of the classroom.
Eligibility Requirements:
The Teacher of the Year must currently teach English to multilingual learners in a NC or SC Institution. This includes K-12 classrooms, community colleges, and universities. Applicants must be Carolina TESOL members in good standing (paid yearly dues) for their applications to be considered. The Teacher of the Year must maintain their membership through 2026 and will be an evaluator of the 2026 Teacher of the Year candidates.
The Teacher of the Year cannot have received ANY awards or grants from Carolina TESOL (including Carolina Canvas Awards) in the past 2 years AND cannot have EVER received the Teacher of the Year award from Carolina TESOL.
The Teacher of the Year must have at least three years' experience teaching English to multilingual learners, which can include teaching experiences outside of NC and SC.
Award:
The 2025 Teacher of the Year will receive a $1000 personal stipend and be recognized at the annual Carolina TESOL conference.
