In many countries around the world, Easter is celebrated with decorated eggs. In Britain, children believe that the Easter Bunny brings chocolate eggs and usually hides them around the house or garden for them to find. This is called an egg hunt. Why not make and decorate some different sized eggs to hide around your classroom or the school playground? (The children could also be involved in decorating and punching out the eggs.) The children have to look for them and then put them into a basket. You could also work on different maths concepts by asking the children to classify the eggs according to colour, size or even pattern. You could also teach them language and concepts, such as 'more' and 'less' or 'lots of'and 'not many'. This fun activity gives you plenty of opportunities to teach different words in English and the children will really enjoy this action-packed game.
Materials:
Paint (for making speckles)
Old toothbrushes
Pens or crayons
Scissors or punches
Labels (big, medium, small, spotty, striped, checked, speckled etc.)
Easter Bunny ears headband:
Another simple craft activity is to make some Easter Bunny ears for your pupils. You can do this by cutting out some ear shapes and sticking them onto a simple paper or card headband. You could teach the Bunny Song and let your pupils do the actions whilst wearing their cute bunny ears. Here you can see a video of a four-year-old bilingual class acting out this lovely song (without their bunny ears!)
