Alexa Skelly attended Mitchell Community College in her hometown of Statesville, North Carolina where she earned an Associates in Fine Arts - Music and Music Education Degree. She then transferred to the University of North Carolina at Wilmington where she earned her Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education with a concentration in vocal studies. While at UNCW, Mrs. Skelly traveled abroad to St. Pӧlten and Vienna, Austria multiple years to attend the Laudate Dominum Choral Workshop held every February. Mrs. Skelly was also honored to perform at two of the UNCW Music Department's Honors Recitals in Beckwith Hall.
Mrs. Skelly is now on her ninth year of teaching and sixth year at Cape Fear Academy. Previously, she taught Chorus and Drama at Roland-Grise Middle School and Chorus at Ashley High School. She has taken her students to perform in the Wilmington community, Music Performance Adjudications, Music in the Parks Competitions at Carowinds and Busch Gardens, All Carolina Men's Invitational at UNC Chapel Hill and the North Carolina State Honors Chorus. Mrs. Skelly is a member of the North Carolina Music Educators Association and regularly attends the Professional Conference held every November in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Skelly sings alto in Wilmington Voices, a non-profit professional choir here in Wilmington, North Carolina.
