Description:
Middle School Chorus is an intermediate course in Choral Singing for 7th and 8th graders. Students gain confidence as performers in a choral ensemble, solo work, and in musical theatre productions. Students learn the joy of singing, playing, and creating music. All students are welcome to join! This is a year long course.
Students Will Be Able To:
Become an ensemble that is comfortable with performing
Gain confidence in solo, small ensemble, and full group singing
Become proficient in intermediate music theory, including notation, sight singing, and ear training
Sing many different styles of music
Become aware of music in our everyday life and how it affects us

Introduction to Healthy Singing Techniques
- Learning to use the whole body to sing
- Physical Anatomy and understanding how the voice works
- Proper breathing technique
- Diet, Water
- Proper use of the voice when NOT singing
- Daily singing exercises
Music Theory
- Learning to read and write music
- Staff, clefs, pitch names, rhythm, note values etc.
- Sight reading and Ear Training
- Solfege (Do, Re, Mi)
- Singing melody and 2 or 3 part harmony
- Keyboard Skills
Musical History and Styles
- Classical, Contemporary Choral Repertoire, Broadway, Pop, Jazz, Gospel, Rock
- Famous Singers and Composers
(All performances are mandatory. An unexcused absence at a performance will lower final semester grades one letter.)
