Description:
Sixth Grade Chorus is an introduction to Choral Singing. Students gain confidence in performing in choral ensembles as well as on stage in musical theatre productions. Students become life long learners and understand the connection of music to culture and other arts. A fun introductory and year long course.
Students Will Be Able To:
Perform in a variety of settings for large and small audiences
Gain confidence in singing in small and large ensembles
Become proficient in beginning music theory, including sight singing
Become aware of music in our everyday life and how it affects us

Introduction to Healthy Singing Techniques
- Learning to use the whole body to sing
- Physical Anatomy and understanding how the voice works
- Proper breathing technique
- Diet, Water
- Proper use of the voice when NOT singing
- Daily singing exercises
Music Theory
- Learning to read and write music
- Staff, clefs, pitch names, rhythm, note values etc.
- Sight reading and Ear Training
- Solfege (Do, Re, Mi)
- Singing melody and 2 or 3 part harmony
Musical History and Styles
- Classical, Contemporary Choral Repertoire, Broadway, Pop, Jazz, Gospel, Rock
- Famous Singers and Composers
(All performances are mandatory. An unexcused absence at a performance will lower final semester grades one letter.)
