Big Idea: What's My Name?

Inquiry Question: How can we create and express our own labels?

—1—

How did your team conceive your project? How was inquiry introduced to students and how did you integrate the inquiry process into your project?

We developed our project by thinking about varying forms of portraiture. After discussing what portraits aim to do, we reached the conclusion that the ultimate form of non-traditional portraiture is a name. Each person's name holds an identity and a story and we are allowed to create the narrative behind our names. We introduced inquiry by practicing art analysis and replication.

—2—

How did your team’s project change?

Our project eventually shifted towards using varying forms of art to combat stigmas and labels.

—3—

How did you integrate English Language Arts into your projects?

We followed along with the book "The First Rules of Punk" by Celia C. Perez

—4—

What did you learn about your students and how they learned? What did you learn about the way you teach?

We learned that many of our students were kinesthetic learners and that collaborative works kept them better engaged on Zoom. We learned that we need to break away from the traditional method of teaching through lectures.
