PreK Videos
Welcome to Preschool Music at the Rodman School!
Welcome Back!
Below are videos from March - June 2020. If you had a child at the Rodman during that time, feel free to find their class and watch the videos as you like. If your child was not at the Rodman last year, or your child is a younger sibling of an elementary student, please feel free to watch any weekly video. You may pause in songs where we use names to add your own child's name.
Below you will find links to videos you can do with your children while they are at home. It is suggested you watch the videos once per week, but I encourage you to do it more if your child enjoys it. These are intended to get the children engaged and moving, as we do during regular classroom music. The benefit of doing them at home is you, their beloved caregiver, can join them. This is a great bonding activity and allows the child to learn from you too. Feel free to pause the videos at any point for your child to add their ideas to our songs!
For families who watch with siblings or children not currently at The Rodman, feel free to pause the videos anywhere we use names in the songs to add your child's name!
Materials: Each week we will use scarves and an "instrument." I will list what you need for the class each week. Below are easy ways to use things in your home to create the materials:
Scarf: Any piece of cloth that is easy for your child to swing around is fine. Ideas: small towels or blankets, a winter scarf, a small t-shirt, ribbons.
Rhythm Sticks: Any two stick-like things your child can tap together. Ideas: wooden or plastic kitchen spoons, actual sticks from a tree, tinker toys, chop sticks.
Egg Shakers: A container small enough for your child to hold in their hands filled with beans, dry rice, cheerios, nuts, pebbles or similar. Ideas: small plastic container, envelope, zip-lock bag, plastic egg that can be opened. Please seal tightly so the children do not swallow the contents!
Drum: Anything you can bang on. Ideas: upside down box, upside down toy container, upside down pots and pans, the floor.
Cups: Two plastic cups your child can tap together. If it is too hard for them to hold two at once, they may use one cup and tap it on the floor.
