Grades K-2

HAPPY SUMMER!

Congratulations, students, parents and guardians. We made it! I am so proud of the work the students did this year! You have worked so hard and displayed amazing creativity during remote learning. Throughout our remote learning, you have learned about different instruments, types of music, and performance techniques. You’ve created, performed, responded to, and connected to music. Most of all, I hope that music has been a source of comfort and joy during these difficult times. Check out the “Spread the Joy” playlists of some of the songs that bring joy to members of our elementary school community here.

It was such a treat to see you use different technology to create music, like the Chrome Music Lab or Isle of Tune. I loved receiving videos and pictures showing me all that you accomplished during this time. I can’t wait to see you again and make music together, however that may look!

Continue creating, being musical, and having fun. Have a wonderful, musical summer!

Fondly,

Mrs. Kidd

K-2 Week 13 Music Activity (June 15-19, 2020)

I can respond to music and compose and perform using a virtual instrument.

Listen to these cool songs. The musicians are playing an instrument called Boomwhackers.

Try it out!

  • Go check out the virtual Boomwhackers here.

  • Click each boomwhacker and see what you notice about the sound of the different tubes.

  • Do you notice a pattern in the size of the tube and the pitch of the sound it makes?

  • Are the big tubes making a lower or higher sound than the small tubes?

Mystery Boomwhacker songs: Try playing these notes on the Boomwhackers and see if you can figure out what song it is! Write your answers in the form below.

  • Song #1 F E D C D D F E D C D D

  • Song #2 B A G B A G G G G G A A A A B A G

Create your own Boomwhacker melody:

  • Make up your own pattern of notes on the Boomwhackers!

  • Share your pattern/song in the form below.

Plan for a musical summer:

Fill out the form to plan for how you’ll continue making music all summer long!

K-2 Week 12 Music Activities (June 8-12, 2020)

I can create and perform rhythm patterns using body percussion.

Tony Chestnut! (3-4 minutes):

  • Watch this video of Miss Carlson singing/dancing to Tony Chestnut. Try to learn the song and the motions to follow along!

Body Percussion (15-20 minutes):

  • In Tony Chestnut we used different parts of our body to create a pattern. We can use our bodies in a similar way by tapping our body to create percussion sounds. If I tap my hand on my lap, it could make a sound like a drum. Way back in Week 2, we used spoons, pencils, and clapping as a percussion activity, but this week, we will be creating our own pattern using our bodies!

  • Watch the videos below for two examples of body percussion patterns. One uses only your body, the second adds a table! You do not need to perform these patterns exactly, they are only an example! Feel free to create your own pattern and share using THIS GOOGLE FORM

Bonus Activity (5-10 minutes):

K-2 Week 11 Music Activities (June 1 - 5, 2020)
