Welcome to the first of what will be a regular weekly newsletter from me and the 91 band. I will be the first person to tell you that my communication is not always the best, so it's my goal for this newsletter to serve as a weekly look at what is going on in band class as well as a reminder for upcoming events.
Spring Band Concert:
On Tuesday, we had our Spring band concert. It was great to see everyone turn out and support the students. The beginning band played three pieces: The Last Dragon, Eagle Summit March, and Dark Beginnings. It was great to see how much they have improved through the year, and it was fitting that we ended with a piece of music that mirrored one of the first pieces we played as a band (Hot Cross Buns).
The Advanced band played two selections from our 2024 festival season, Darklands March and Loch Lomond.
This week in the band classroom:
Even though we are almost to the end of the year, there is still much more for the two bands to accomplish. The beginning band has been working on preparing their parts for Pomp and Circumstance, which they will play at the 8th grade promotion. We have also been progressing further through the method book. A few students have taken up the challenge of completing all of the medal songs in the book. Students who play all the medal songs for me receive a medal and their names on the wall in the band room for everyone to see.
The Advanced band has been putting the finishing touches on The Masque of the Red Death, which the band will play at the 8th-8th-grade promotion. They also began the first two events in the 2024 Band Olympics.
Upcoming Events and Reminders:
June 12th 8th grade promotion: All 91 band students will perform at the 8th grade promotion. 6th and 7th grade students will play Pomp and Circumstance while the students enter the gym. During the ceremony, the 8th-grade band students will join the 7th-grade band members to play the Masque of the Red Death.
Students will report at 5:30 in concert attire.
June 13th all school equipment is due back: All rented instruments and equipment should be returned to Mr. Ramirez by the 13th.
Firework booth sign-ups: Information on volunteering for the fireworks booth is under the Document and Forms tab. A reminder that this opportunity is only for current 7th and 8th-grade students.
