Natsu Sato - Director of Boarding
I grew up in a small town in Nara, spending much of my teen years practicing kendo. After graduating from college, I moved to the United States. I taught Japanese at three US colleges before returning to my homeland to raise my daughter Aya near her family. I have taught Japanese language and literature at Canadian Academy for 15 years. I want our students to develop their social skills and learn to be responsible for themselves and each other. I also hope to share my love of cooking with them.
I live with my husband Peter and our dog Mario.
Peter Born - Dorm Parent & Ms. Sato's Husband
I retired from teaching English last year, after spending my last 13 years here at Canadian Academy. I grew up in five countries and have worked in six more. I enjoy sports–Red Sox, Liverpool and the Boston Celtics (sorry!). Having attended international schools and a boarding school, I want to give our students a safe place to develop independence and the social skills to live outside their families. I also hope to share my enthusiasm for bicycling. The dorm years are a time of strong social development, which help students get ready for life at a university and beyond.
Monica Qua Hiansen - Dorm Parent
I grew up in seven countries and attended five international schools before graduating from CA. After university in New York, I moved back to my favorite city, Kobe, where I teach IBDP History and Grade 9 MYP Humanities. I supervise Model UN, Mock Trial, and URCA, our school’s social justice group. I love CA’s cozy atmosphere and look forward to introducing dormies to all the best Kansai has to offer, including tea ceremony!
Kaoru White - Dorm Parent
I grew up in a small port town in Osaka, which is now a tourist attraction of an aquarium and LEGO Land. I attended two international schools in Kobe and a boarding school in Massachusetts. After university, I returned to Kansai to start a family. This is my 27th year at Canadian Academy working with the youngest learners. With the other dorm parents, I hope to help create a safe and warm environment we could call ‘home’.
Bill White - Dorm Parent
I grew up in New England before moving to Japan in 1988. I have been teaching EFL for more than 30 years and currently an adjunct at 3 universities in the Osaka – Kobe area. I have been part of the Canadian Academy community since 1995 and was a dorm parent for 5 years 2009 – 2014. I hope to share my passion for hiking with the students.
Yuka Cook - Dorm Nurse
Ben Tai - Part-Time Dorm Parent
I am entering an 11th year as a member of the Canadian Academy community, with my two daughters, Jaime (G9) and Joli (G4), and my wife Rose in Student Support Services. Although each of us was born in different countries - Taiwan, Jamaica, Malaysia, and Japan - we are true Canadians at heart who love the cold winter thrill of snowboarding! As a part-time dorm parent, I look forward to helping Gloucester House remain a safe and accepting dorm community, and perhaps sharing with our dorm family some fun trips down the snowy slopes. Welcome.
Mario - Gloucester House Dog
I was born and raised right here in Kobe. I take my role as a guard dog seriously and bark at anything that moves and makes noise. Please do not worry, however. I am just loud in greeting everyone, and I do not bite. I am 9 years old, but still a puppy at heart.
