Camp Onas was thrilled to offer Matteo an internship opportunity this spring. Investing in interns, as we do with summer staff, provides a unique career development opportunity for young people across a range of interests. Onas interns– most of whom are former counselors now exploring professional paths– can develop new skills while continuing to make Onas a better organization. For example, our current Advancement and Engagement Coordinator interned at Camp Onas and has been growing our communications and fundraising capacity ever since! Camp Onas works with each prospective intern to determine responsibilities, projects, and compensation that meets shared needs. And, all Camp Onas interns have access to professional development opportunities, resume review and assistance, and a letter of recommendation! Three big ones for Camp Onas Interns!
Say hello to our spring & summer intern Matteo!
Matteo has been a part of the Onas community since 2011 when he first arrived as a one-week camper. He has been a summer staff member since 2017 and is excited to work another summer as a Directors’ Assistant in 2023. During his time at Camp, he was a counselor in many bunks, led the Arts & Crafts ministaff, and worked on a number of theme weekends.
During this internship, Matteo is primarily focused on redesigning the Voyager Program and developing our between-session Bridge Program. He has also been a huge help with hosting school groups, off-season events, and work days. Onas can get awfully quiet in the off-season when campers aren’t here to fill the space, but Matteo has been enjoying Camp’s beauty while helping to prepare for the summer.
In college, Matteo studies psychology and digital and computational studies. At Onas, he’s learned how much he enjoys working with people of all ages, and he appreciates the experience in nonprofit administration this internship provides. Once he graduates, Matteo is curious about pursuing teaching.
Matteo is originally from Nyack, New York, where his family lives today. He has spent the past few years living in beautiful Lewiston, Maine, and is excited to move to Boston in the fall. Matteo likes to spend his time listening to music, playing the piano, going on walks, reading, and watching movies with friends.
Thank you, Matteo! We’re so glad you’re here with us at Onas this summer.
