WHAT IS GENERAL MUSIC?
General Music is a means of helping ALL students understand the basic principles of music such as beat, melody, harmony, tempo, etc.
This is Cambrian School District's 17th year with dedicated general music teachers. For this 2023-2024 school year, we have a weekly schedule that allows us to provide year-long general music instruction to our TK through 5th grade students at each of our four elementary school sites. Our general music teachers are:

Using the Orff-Schulwerk approach to teaching music, we focus on fostering creativity, conveying musical knowledge, and evoking and cultivating musical skills through singing, movement, body percussion, improvisation, and playing pitched (Orff xylophones) and un-pitched (drums, shakers, etc.) instruments. Recorder instruction begins in 3rd grade and continues through 5th grade. Depending on the grade level, the general music program culminates with either a music sharing or concert, during which the children demonstrate some of the performance skills they have acquired during the school year.
