BEGINNING BAND -

Band is a large multi-instrument performing ensemble. Our beginning band offers the following instruments: Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone, and Percussion (with 1 year piano experience or permission from the band director). Percussion requires both untuned (drums, cymbals, accessories, etc.) and tuned percussion (Concert bells, marimba, xylophone). Percussionists are expected to practice both instrument families which involves reading rhythms and pitches on a music staff.

Our Beginning band is intended for students with little to no background in instrumental music. We only ask for enthusiastic, involved students with a growth mindset and a love of music.

Band curriculum includes basic music theory, instrument fundamentals, posture, breath control, and performing ensemble etiquette.

To participate in the band program, a $150.00 donation is requested and greatly appreciated. This non-refundable donation is voluntary and not required. The District relies on these donations to be able to continue to offer high quality extra-curricular programs of this type for all of its students. This donation includes one after-school rehearsal per week, a band method book, and highly qualifed instrument specialist. (NOTE: Parents are expected to provide black pants (full length), black socks (above the ankle) and black shoes for performances.)

Please note that these ensembles are separate from the after-school enrichment programs at the school sites, and require a full-year commitment.

Band rehearsals begin the week of October 9th.

Where to get an instrument?

Band students can rent, buy, or borrow a band instrument. We do have a limited supply of district instruments which are available to loan.

INSTRUMENT LOAN

The Band Program has bell kits (percussion), trombones, trumpets, clarinets, and a small number of flutes available for loan. An additional $50.00 NON-REFUNDABLE DONATION is requested if you are chosen to borrow an instrument from the district
