Frequently Asked Questions

I am in band/sports/etc. can I still be in CamTech?

Yes! We encourage our students to participate in extracurricular activities, including those which are tied to our own Career Technology Student Organizations.

There are lots of students in the school, What if I can't complete my pathway because I don't get into a class that is full?

That won't happen. As a CamTech member, you receive priority sign-ups for all of our classes, so you'll always get into the classes you need.

Will I be guaranteed placement in an internship/apprenticeship/job if I join CamTech?

No. While we encourage our students to pursue internships and often are able to present our students with several internship opportunities, we do not participate in internship/apprenticeship/job "placement." Students must apply for internships, apprentice programs, or jobs themselves if they wish to pursue them.

Do I need to want to go to College if I am in CamTech?

No. In addition to providing insight into college opportunities, we also explore trade school and work opportunities, as well.

Does it cost money to be in Camtech?

There are no dues or fees. However, students must have an ASB card to join, must pay any applicable lab fees for classes which have them, and may have to incur the costs of their Senior Capstone project if they choose to do something that requires the purchase of materials (this is entirely avoidable, though). Please see your administrator if you feel you can not pay those fees; scholarships may be available.

Principles

A few notes from Washington State Law goals statement at..http://apps.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=28A.150.210

Goal 1 – in CamTech.we focus on ” … communication … ”

Goal 2 – in CamTech.we focus on ” … apply … ”

Goal 3 – in CamTech.we focus on ” ….integrate technology literacy and fluency … ” and ” … solve problems … ”

Goal 4 – we embrace the entire goal as core to our CamTech pathway ” … Understand the importance of work and finance and how performance, effort, and decisions directly affect future career and educational opportunities…. ”

In addition to the above our program pathway believes in the concept of ” agile “… our programs and courses offered, and teaching strategies for those courses move, to meet the needs and interests of our students, who are our main customers. Students’ job here is to create themselves and their futures. They are entrusted into our care for a short four years. Our job as teachers and support staff is to help our students do their job to the best of their ability. To do that we will always be looking for the best way to get our jobs done well, together. Understand the importance of work and finance and how performance, effort, and decisions directly affect future career and educational opportunities.

A shortened statement that tries to capture all of the above, as offered by the Camas High School Futures Committee in 2014, is:.We are creative persistent problem solvers and thinkers who work well in teams.
