Makeup
In an era where hygiene is extremely important, the CHS Players no longer feel it is in the best interest of our actor's health to use community makeup. Instead, each actor may wear their own personal makeup to their comfort level. On this page, we provide a list a resources for those wishing to get started in the makeup world!
The Basic Makeup Kit
Foundation
Here you have two options A) pick up your favorite MATTE full coverage foundation from any store or B) get stage foundation. If you use "normal" foundation it MUST BE MATTE. The stage lights will make you look like a sweaty mess otherwise. If you want to get stage foundation (it is only $10), we suggest Ben Nye.
To get Ben Nye you can either go to their website directly or a local shop that sells it. The Kostume Room in Wyoming has a great selection.
Blush
Yes, even the boys need blush. Don't go crazy, just bring the life back into your face after the foundation makes you look like a ghost.
Normally $1-2 at the local dollar store
Eyeshadows
You at least need a light brown and a dark brown. Get something that complements your skin tone. We just want to see that you have features like eyes and a nose from stage. You can use these as highlights and bronzer if you are on a budget.
Normally $2-4 at the local dollar store
Lipstick
Pick a shade that is just a bit darker than your natural lip tone. We just want to see that you have lips on stage under the lights.
Normally $1-2 at the local dollar store
Eyeliner
Get a shade that looks good on you. Most people like black, but brown can look good if your hair color is lighter.
You also have the option of several applicator types. There is no right answer! Everyone has their favorite. Just know that gel or liquid tends to be harder for beginners as it needs to dry and can get away from you. If you get a wooden pencil, you will need to bring a sharpener.
NOTE: DO NOT share your eyeliner. Don't share any makeup, but this one gets very close to your eyes, and sharing will put you at a huge risk of getting sick.
Normally $1-2 at the local dollar store
Mascara
Get a shade that looks good on you. Most people like black, but brown can look good if your hair color is lighter.
NOTE: NEVER share any makeup, but this one is the biggest NO NO - NEVER - NOT EVER - DO NOT - share. You will get an eye infection if you try to share mascara.
Normally $4 at the local dollar store
Sponges/Brushes
To apply foundation/blush. You can use your fingers for foundation, but it is hard to make blush look good with your fingers. You'll also need something to apply the eyeshadows to small places like your brows.
Normally $2-3 for a pack (will last you the whole show) at the local dollar store
Wipes/Face Wash
To take everything off
Baby wipes work, but wipes made for makeup are better! Face wash is best for sensitive skin types. You can also just wait until you get home each night and wash your makeup off with soap and water.
Normally $4 for a pack/bottle (will last you the whole show) at the local dollar store
Q-Tips
To clean lines and apply eyeshadows.
You can get away without these, but they really help!
Normally $2 for a pack (will last you the whole show) at the local dollar store
