Let's try something new. Let's have some student input on what play we should do next. Note: we are TRYING this process out. It will only apply to next year's fall play. Let's see how we like this process and we can revamp it for future use.
Must be a comedy (2025)
Must be PG
Must have a good amount of parts for female actors. Be aware of the gender ratio of the people who will audition
Must be between 60 and 120 minutes long
Should have at least 15 speaking roles. (You can pitch a play with fewer roles, but remember that the amount of roles will affect how auditions shake out).
We will first need to order samples of scripts we are interested in. Samples cost around $10 each, so make sure you are really interested in a play before ordering it. Mrs. Bauer has vote power!
To order a sample, look at the companies below and browse their collections. Also, check out the samples that are already in Mrs. Bauer's classroom. When you find a play you want to order, fill out the google form.
Sample order requests are due Sept. 30th.
Once your sample comes in, Mrs. Bauer will give it to you. It is then your job to read the script and report back to the group. Starting Oct. 15th, we will start rehearsal with your pitches to the group. This is your chance to campaign for your script! Your goal is to convince the group that they should vote for your choice. You will have the floor for no more than five minutes. We will only have one pitch per day. Be prepared to answer questions. You should also give the sample to other people to read.
*If after reading the script, you no longer feel the play is a good choice for us, you can decide not to pitch the play.
Next, we will vote on which script we want to do next year. Voting will open on Friday, November 1st. Voting will close on the 10th. Each person will only get one vote, so be sure of your vote before you cast it! You will be asked for your first and second favorite choice.
Once voting is closed, the students won't hear anything until Masquerade. Mrs. Bauer will take the play that got the most votes and file paperwork to request the right to do it. If our first choice is denied, she will move on to the next choice. The show we book a contract for will be announced at Masquerade. Please be aware that Mrs. Bauer is legally not allowed to discuss the status of rights paperwork or the titles requested until the paperwork is finalized.
