MATCH REPORT U15 BOYS vs SOUTH DARTMOOR SEPTEMBER 2021

Report by Rhys L

Thursday 30th September, the day that Callington Community College were to face an undisclosed school by the name of South Dartmoor. The lads did not know what they were facing until the match began. School had finished and it was time for the game, 3:30 pm kickoff. Just before the game two lads had forgotten their shinpads and their was a few slight injuries Mr Hazeldine had to take in to account. However in the terrential rain the game was about to begin. Rhys L approached their captain as they got to choose ends etc... To start with the boys were beginning to keep and secure #the ball and not too far into the game a penalty had come CCC's way. James B stepped up to take the penalty and a very calm finish into the bottom left corner had give CCC a 1-0 lead. Not long after, Sam L and Rhys L were playing some lovely 1-2 touch football as Rhys played James B through and with a perfectly executed ball Taran G had an easy tap-in to make it 2-0 very early on in the game. Now about 15-20 minutes in the game and South Dartmoor still had not created a substantial chance due to CCC winning all of their battles. Swiflty afterwards South Dartmoor attempted to play the ball in their own half and an interception soon saw CCC with a counter as Ben A found himself with a bouncing ball and with a well-struck half volley the ball once again ended up in the net making it 3-0. We were still were managing to keep 75% of possession with 10 minutes to go of the half Rhys played it to Kaspar P who then switched to Nathan S with an exquisite ball into James B who found himself in a 1v1 with the keeper and buried it to make it 4-0 to the boys. A miniscule amount of the half left now as Dylan W drove with the ball down the wing and cut in beating a few players to then placing the ball into the bottom corner to make it 5-0 at the end of the half. At half time Mr Hazeldine was happy with the teams performance and all he asked of the lads was to secure and recycle the ball as much as possible and to try and drive into the box from a corner and win a header to score a goal. The second half had then begun and the Callington boys were doing exactly as Mr Hazeldine had asked them too, a few misplaced here and there but overall Callington were keeping the ball well. Now it is 10 minutes into the second half and once again Callington had been playing through the back and finding pockets to receive the ball in and gradually after a long time with the ball, Taran G was in the right place inside the 18 yard box and scored once again for his second and Callington's 6th. Now the game began to really settle down as we were now just constantly playing the ball doing as Mr Hazeldine had requested. With hardly anytime left of the game now Nathan S made a darting run with the ball through the middle and played a through ball to Lewis E and with the keeper approaching of his line Lewis finished it right in the side-netting to make it 7-0. Overall a great performance from the lads as they nowmove on to the next round.

Well done to all the boys
