SCI01 Summit Environmental Science (G) (1 semester) - Grades 11 -12 SPRING ONLY This course is approved to meet the “g” freshman admission requirement for entrance to a UC/CSU Prerequisites: Completion of 1 life science and 1 physical science with a C or better. This course surveys key topic areas, including the application of scientific process to environmental analysis; ecology; energy flow; ecological structures; earth systems; and atmospheric, land, and water science. Topics also include the management of natural resources and analysis of private and governmental decisions involving the environment. Students explore actual case studies and conduct five hands-on, unit-long research activities, learning that political and private decisions about the environment and the use of resources require accurate application of scientific processes, including proper data collection and responsible conclusions.
SCI030 Forensic Science (G)(1 semester) - Grades 11 -12 FALL ONLY Prerequisites: Completion of Biology, Chemistry, and Geometry with a C or better. This course is approved to meet the “g” freshman admission requirement for entrance to a UC/CSU The course surveys key topics in forensic science, including the application of the scientific process to forensic analysis, procedures and principles or crime scene investigation, physical and trace evidence, and the law and courtroom procedures from the perspective of the forensic scientist. Through online lessons, virtual and hands-on labs, and analysis of fictional crime scenarios, students learn about forensic tools, technical resources, forming and testing hypotheses, proper data collection, and responsible conclusions.
SCI330A/B Anatomy and Physiology (G) (2 semesters) -Grades 10-12 Prerequisites: Completion of Biology with a C or better. This course is approved to meet the “g” freshman admission requirement for entrance to a UC/CSU. Increase your understanding about the form and function of the human body! Starting with the relationship between anatomy and physiology, you will then learn about cell structure and their processes. Discover the functions and purposes of the skeletal, muscular, nervous, and cardiovascular systems as well as diseases that affect those systems. Becoming familiar with the terminology of the human body is essential to those pursuing health sciences or wanting to gain a greater sense of how the human body works. Students will also learn about the structure, function, and interrelation between the lymphatic, immune, respiratory, digestive, urinary, and the endocrine systems. The reproductive system is also discussed along with hereditary traits and genetics. Finally, students will explore the importance of accurate patient documentation as well as technology used in the industry.
