Being a teenager is about exploring your identity, managing sometimes contradictory expectations, interacting with family and friends, and pursuing your goals and dreams. For this assignment, you will plan and write a narrative with a logical sequence of events. Choose a specific yet significant event in your life where you overcame a challenge and what you learned as a result. As you write using first-person narrative, focus on using descriptive and narrative techniques to develop people, places, and events. As always, pay close attention to standard English Language conventions such as spelling, grammar, punctuation, structure, and format. Your narrative must be at least 5 fully-developed paragraphs in length.
An event with a beginning, middle, and end
5 paragraphs long
First person perspective (use I, me)
Show action in SLOW motion, frame by frame. Stretch it out. Include description and your thoughts and feelings!
Remember, the person reading your narrative was not there. Paint a picture so the reader can visualize what is happening
Incorporate all 5 senses
Sight, smell, touch, hear, taste
Use at least 3 lines of dialogue
This can be a conversation between two people or a person's internal thoughts
Answer the question: "What have I learned from this experience?" to conclude your essay
(Hint: if the answer is nothing, choose a different experience!)
