UCAS Personal Statement
Also, many of our students do apply to UK schools, and their personal statements are kind of different; the UK personal statement ought to focus mostly on academics.
So, whereas the college essay in the States shows a side of the student separate from the rest of the application, the UK personal statement should be a synopsis of the applicants' unique talents and experiences in relation to the undergraduate course they are applying to
Here are a few questions that are great for getting started with it (in order as they should appear on the personal statement) and with suggested focus):
Why have you chosen this course? 50%
What excites you about the subject? 20%
Is my previous or current study relevant to the course? 10%
Have you got any work experience that might help you? 10%
What life experiences have you had that you could talk about? 2.5%
What achievements are you proud of? 2.5%
What skills do you have that make you perfect for the course? 2.5%
What plans and ambitions do you have for your future career? 2.5%
The personal statement can be up to 4,000 characters long, with a word limit of around 550–1000 words with spaces and only about 1 side of typed A4 paper.
