South Highland Robotics encourages students to use critical thinking and cyber skills in order to accomplish a variety of tasks using the Mindstorms EV3 robot.
Each RARC competition requires the students to accomplish multiple tasks, one of which is given on the day of competition. This allows for the students to utilize their STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) knowledge in order to complete the assignments as quickly as possible.
In Competition 3 for 2019, students participated in a Mystery Challenge. The rules for this competition were not released beforehand and students were required to program on-the-spot.
South Highlands won 1st place, securing the Grand Champion win for the year! The prize was $1500 for our robotics program!
In Competition 2 for 2019, students had to modify their robots so that they could move several small objects, as well as lift and deliver a small submersible pump to a specified location. Next, they had to employ a sensor that could measure the distance of a block placed on the competition mat.
It was this competition that our teams obtained first, second and third place, making it South Highland Robotics' first sweep at a competition.
