As far as weekly tests, there will be a spelling test on Wednesday and a Wordly Wise (vocabulary) test on Friday of each week. I do not require any written homework for these two subjects, however, please make sure your child is studying these words throughout the week to ensure he or she is prepared for the test. For spelling, you could call the words out to your child or have your child practice writing the words. For vocabulary, you could quiz your child verbally or quiz them with the flashcards we make in class. Try to use the words in different scenarios. I want to make sure they are actually applying the vocabulary word to the real world instead of just memorizing a definition.
After school, I would rather your child go outside and play, read, or have quality family time than do busy work at home. (Written homework may have to be assigned to a student if he or she is needing extra practice.)
READING HOMEWORK:
Students should read nightly for 30 minutes.
WORDLY WISE VOCABULARY HOMEWORK:
We will have a Wordly Wise test every Friday with the exception of weeks that may be short or have a holiday. Students may use their Wordly Wise workbook, Quizlet, or flash cards for practice to ensure they are prepared for the weekly test.
SPELLING HOMEWORK:
We will have a spelling test every Wednesday. There is no required homework, but students should study their words nightly. Students may also visit spellingcity.com for digital practice.
Below is the suggested AR pacing for this nine weeks. Remember, all students should be meeting their point goal and percentage goal (85%) every nine weeks!
