About

Who We Are

Welcome!

Welcome to the Transformative Learning Center - a name that is an urgent response to the challenges and opportunities to enact sustainable change we need in the world.

Our Mission

Our mission at the TLC is to offer you robust teaching and learning programs, workshops and one-on-one consultations - inspiring you to thrive as an inclusive, equity-minded, culturally responsive, and transformative teaching and learning practitioner. Let us fly together!

Who We Serve

TLC serves faculty and staff in three major areas: Distance Education, faculty and Staff Development, and Teaching and Learning Practices. When possible, we leverage grants to further collaborate with instructional colleagues, campus and community partners to build on our collective expertise to explore and innovate emergent and timely transformative teaching and learning innovations. Our Center includes three spaces, the 24/7 access workspace (1094), the professional learning space (1095), and the innovation and conference room space (1096).

Our Facilities

The TLC has physical locations: Rooms 1094, 1095, and 1096 (AKA "La Cueva" located behind the library, under the HUB). The TLC Room 1094 is the “Faculty Workspace” - a 24/7 anytime workspace. Room 1095 is the "TLC Professional Development Space" - with TLC staff offices, and set up for working on the computers to design and develop courses. Room 1095 is an "Innovation Space" set up to explore teaching practices and design your courses. It is also a space to reserve for meetings with surround sound, and Owls. For more information, reservations and to request access codes.

What We Do

The TLC serves as the administrators of Canvas, which means we work in the "backend technical functions" in addition to the instructional technology and design support for courses. Canvas has had exponential growth in use from inside and outside of instruction since COVID! The TLC has responded by offering innovative technologies to enhance teaching and learning as well as working on building training for emergent diverse modalities for learning (e.g. hybrid, hyflex...) and needs. TLC also supports and administrates professional development, Flex, and Vision Resource Center MySeahawkPD with a goal of centralizing support for professional development, and build collaboration and partnerships on campus interested in instructional partnerships to leverage the services and support TLC has to offer.

In addition, we have responded to the growing need to close the equity gap as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) by transitioning focus on robust programs and workshops to advance, innovate, and create culturally responsive, accessible, and equitable teaching and learning practices for all students coming to Cabrillo. We welcome your ideas and partnerships!
