Accessibility Issues:
If a student has an accessibility or medical concern which requires special housing or adjustments to a room/suite, this request needs to come to Cabot by way of Accessible Education Office (AEO@fas.harvard.edu, http://aeo.fas.harvard.edu/). An AEO request does not change one’s housing standing. However, the building manager and house staff will work with the AEO to honor all requests.
Cabot House is not an accessible house by the standards of the ADA. If you are in a wheelchair or have mobility needs, we will work with the DSO and the AEO to help you. You may be temporarily housed in another house if you require wheelchair accessibility, but you will retain a Cabot affiliation. Cabot House does not hold rooms outside of the spring housing process for individuals with accessibility needs. Spaces held back (not in use for in spring housing) are tutor rooms, the Resident Dean's house, the Faculty Dean's house, scholar suites, all living rooms, the gym, the theater, laundry and kitchens, storage or dining hall space, administrative offices, closets and tunnels. Oh, and the quad lawn itself.
Personal concerns which are not accessibility issues:
If you have a personal issue which may affect your housing, you are welcome to discuss it confidentially with the Resident Dean or House Administrator. A personal concern does not change one's spring housing standing. Cabot encourages averaging groups to discuss their concerns about living together as a group, and make the best decision possible for everyone.
Identity concerns:
Cabot House is committed to supporting all community members—including our transgender, genderqueer, and gender non-conforming students—to access housing that is appropriate for their needs. All students are welcome to live in a single, or in a same-gender or mixed-gender suite, but if you have concerns, we encourage you to reach out to either the Resident Dean (cabothousedean@fas.harvard.edu) or the House Administrator (apepper@fas.harvard.edu), so we are able to help identify the best housing allocation possible for you. This will not change your housing standing.
Inter-House transfers:
If you have recently joined Cabot after successfully completing an inter-house transfer request, then you may take part in Spring Housing, if you have been confirmed for housing by the central Housing office.
If you are currently a member of another House, but you plan to apply to be part of Cabot in a future Inter-House Transfer process, you may not take part in this housing process. However, please make sure the House Administrator (apepper@fas.harvard.edu) knows your housing preferences.
Those approved to be on campus in Cabot may not include someone in their housing group who is affiliated with another house.
Leaves of Absence:
Students who took a leave of ancence but who plan to return for the Spring 2021 term (and have confirmed their housing) may participate in this housing process. Per the College housing terms, Juniors who are returning from a leave of absence will be assigned after those Juniors who have These entries will also be reviewed by the Resident Dean for accuracy.
Students on Ad Board Leave:
Students who require ad board approval to return may participate in this housing process by permission/recommendation of the Resident Dean. If you think you require ad board approval to return to campus (not for study abroad), please email the Resident Dean (cabothousedean@fas.harvard.edu).
Floaters:
If you cancel your housing after the lottery, Cabot reserves the right to re-assign the room given to you on Jan. 7th. Cabot encourages everyone to select rooms equal to the number of people in your group.
