Summer school information is now available on the YM Guidance Website.
Here is a message for parents/guardians of students who failed a mandatory (required) course in semester one or are currently failing a mandatory course (mid-term, semester 2, 2026-26). Please remember, the goal for credit accumulation for September is for incoming grade 10s to start with 8 credits, incoming grade 11s to start with 16 credits, and incoming grade 12s to start with at least 23 credits.
If students fail a mandatory course and don't recover it, they will need to repeat it. If you are unsure if a course is mandatory, see this page on the YM Guidance website. It can be difficult for Guidance Counsellors to schedule a repeat course.
Credit recovery is offered, ONLINE, for a number of mandatory grade 9 and 10 courses (and a few grade 11/12) in July through the TDSB's Continuing Education Department. Registration opens April 28 at 10 am.
Credit recovery is for students who failed a mandatory course. It offers a chance for the students to redo the units (curriculum expectations) they did NOT pass in the first course attempt. Math is not offered in credit recovery - instead, it is called remedial math and is offered in person in July. Summer credit recovery sections fill up quickly. It is important to sign up early.
It is possible to recover two credits online, one in the morning, one in the afternoon.
Geography (grade 9)
Canadian history (grade 10)
Civics/Careers (grade 10)
ESL (levels A-E)
English (grade 9, 10, 11, 12 - note grade 11 English code is NBE3U or NBE3C)
French (grade 9 and 10)
Science (grade 9 and 10)
French Immersion credit recovery courses are not offered.
Remedial math is offered in person at a number of summer school sites (not at York Mills and not close to York Mills). These courses are listed under in person full credit. The student has to have failed the course to take remedial.
grade 9 math (MTH1WU)
grade 10 academic math (MPM2DU)
grade 11 college math (MBF3CU)
grade 11 mixed math (MCF3MU)
grade 11 university math (MCR3U)
It is possible to recover a credit online and do a remedial math course in person. However, the logistics are very tricky as travel will be required between home and the school site. Please discuss with guidance or Ms. Gluskin.
Remedial Math School sites:
East end: David and Mary Thomson (near Midland and Lawrence), Stephen Leacock (Birchmount north of Sheppard)
West end: Western Tech, West Humber, Westview
Central: Central Tech (Bathurst and Bloor)
