Did you know that post-secondary pathways include workplace, gap year, apprenticeship, college and university?

The YMCI  Guidance department held Skilled Trades Week from Dec. 1 - 5, 2025. This was all about the apprenticeship pathway. All parents/guardians and students should understand how the world of work is changing and take serious consideration of a career in the trades.

Course selection is one of the most important times during the entire school year! This does not happen until FEBRUARY. 

• selections determine which classes will run or not

• selections determine how many sections of each class will run

• once these decisions are made, they are not changed, even if more people want to take a certain course in September of the next year

So, choose carefully!!!!

Experience shows that some students don't take advantage of all the opportunities for assistance with course selection. These include: 

• guidance counsellor meeting

• guidance website

• student success

• classroom visits by guidance or workshops offered

• subject teachers

• course fair (Feb.  2026)
