Health Services
Early diagnosis of a communicable disease can help to prevent its spread. If your child is ill with a communicable disease, please notify the School Nurse. Following a case of a contagious disease, a child will not be admitted to school until a release from the doctor is submitted and/or inspection after, by the School Nurse. A full-time Nurse will be on duty in each school during school hours. In case of illness or accident, calling for your assistance may be necessary. For that reason, the school must have both your telephone number and an emergency number.
The School Physician acts mainly in an advisory capacity. Each student shall be examined by their own physician upon entry into school, which means Kindergarten or transferring into school. The Byram Board of Education is required to notify parents/guardians of the importance of obtaining subsequent medical exams of students at least one time during each developmental stage. The stages are early childhood (Preschool, Kindergarten, grades 1, 2 and 3), pre-adolescence (grades 4, 5 and 6) and adolescence (grades 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12).
The Child Study Team is available for psychological testing.
Please notify the School Nurse of any allergies to bee stings, peanuts, milk, etc., or any other health concerns your child may have.
Vision and hearing screenings are done in preschool, Kindergarten and grades 2, 4, 6 and 8. A teacher or parent/guardian may request to have a student screened for vision or hearing if needed. All Child Study Team referrals are screened.
Scoliosis screening shall be conducted for grades 5 and 7.
The American Dental Association recommends that students visit their own dentist regularly to prevent dental problems
