Progress Reports
This is a report of outstanding achievement or a warning indicating that the student’s present effort and achievement are below expectations. Parents are expected to regularly monitor student progress through the Parent Portal. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to contact the teacher if additional communication is desired. Being well informed regarding your child’s progress best serves his/her needs.
For information regarding Parent Portal registration, see our district website or contact the main office at your child’s school.
Report Cards
Report cards inform parents regarding student achievement and effort. These reports are available for each marking period through the Parent Portal approximately one week after each marking period closes. Paper copies will be mailed only upon request.
Student Records
Your child’s records are available for your inspection. An appointment to view these records should be requested in writing through the building Principal.
Special Interest Bulletins
Special Interest bulletins report actions taken at school board meetings. They are posted monthly on our school website.
Educational Objectives
Each fall the Byram Township Schools host a Back-to-School night in each school for parents/guardians. At that time parents/guardians can visit their child’s classrooms and meet their child’s teachers. The teachers will present an overview of the instructional program and the educational objectives for the subjects to be covered in the class.
Parent Conferences
Parent/guardian conferences are held each Fall and Spring to discuss the progress of your children in their classes. In the Fall and Spring, two evenings and one afternoon are set aside for conferences in the Lakes School and Intermediate School. Our schools close early on the conference dates. Parents/guardians are asked not to bring preschool children to conferences.
Lunch Menus
The lunch menu is posted on our website’s home page and posted in the E-BACKPACK section.
Free and Reduced lunch applications are located on the school website
Parent Notices
Parent notices will be placed on the website in the E-BACKPACK section. A weekly e-mail (SMORE) will be sent home, including important notices.
Guidance Program and Services
The mission of the Guidance Program at the Byram Township Schools is to assist students with academic, emotional and social issues. Transitioning from elementary school to middle school is both exciting and challenging for students. There are many new responsibilities that students will take on in addition to exciting opportunities and experiences. During their time at Byram Intermediate Schools students may find themselves having trouble with some aspect of school, be it academically or socially; should this occur students are encouraged to seek out the help of the Guidance Counselor.
Some of the services that are offered through the Guidance Program are:
Individual Counseling: The Guidance Counselor is available to meet with students to address academic, personal and social concerns.
High School Scheduling: Students from Byram Intermediate School have many options when choosing where to attend high school. While the majority of our students go on to Lenape Valley Regional High School, some choose to investigate other schools. Sussex County Vocational-Technical School and Pope John are examples of other schools our students have attended. The Guidance Office is available to assist in the application for alternative schools as well as aiding the scheduling for Lenape Valley Regional High School.
New Student Orientation: Students new to Byram will receive a tour of the school as well as continued support from the Guidance Office.
Conferencing: The Guidance Counselor is available at both the fall and spring conferences as well as throughout the year to meet with parents and teachers, as needed.
Testing: As testing coordinator for the district, the Assistant Principal organizes all standardized tests for the students. Any questions or concerns regarding testing should be directed to her/him.
504 Coordinator: The purpose of a 504 plan is to ensure all students, including those with a disability, have equal access to an education. Necessary accommodations and modifications are implemented through a 504 plan in order to guarantee this is received. The Guidance Counselor is the 504 Coordinator for the district. Any student who has a medical condition rendering the need for accommodations should contact the Guidance Office.
