Swim test and Age Guidelines

Swim Testing - The Baldwin-Woodville Pool is committed to implementing proven prevention efforts to ensure children who swim in our pool are safe. The following guidelines will be used according to the age of the child.

Ages 0-4

Supervising individual (16+) must be in the pool with the swimmer.

No testing necessary as an adult must remain in the pool within arm’s reach.

Ages 5-10

Supervising individual (16+) must be on the pool deck in close proximity to the swimmer. Supervising adult needs to be watching their swimmer at all times.

Testing required if swimmer wishes to use deep end (diving well).

Ages 11-15

No supervising individual required.

Testing required if swimmer wishes to use the deep end.

16 and older

No supervision required.

No testing required.

The Baldwin-Woodville Pool encourages use of lifejackets for all children, regardless of age, who cannot pass a swim test. The lifejacket must be U.S. Coast Guard approved. Water wings are not Coast Guard approved.

Deep Water Swim Test - To enter the deep water area of the pool the swimmer must pass the Deep Water Swim Test.

Upon completion of the swim test, swimmers will be given a wristband at the office. The office will record the child's name so they will not need to take the test again. Please turn in the band at the pool office window before exiting the pool building.

On subsequent visits let the pool office know you have passed the test and they will check your name on the list. You will then get a wristband once it is verified you have passed the deepwater test.
