Swimming Lessons Overview
New levels begin the summer of 2023
The ages listed with each level is to provide guidance however each swimmer is different and we encourage all swimmers to develop their skills at their own pace and comfort. Some swimmers will require more training in basic skills
Parent/Child Class (6 - 36 months old)
Parent/Child lessons help parents learn how to help their child be comfortable and safe in and around water. This class is for children aged 6-36 months and a parent. Covers holding and support techniques, games, and how to safely help your child engage with the water.
Pre-Level 1 (Ages: 3 - 4)
This class is for children that haven't passed kindergarten yet. This class focuses on helping kids become comfortable and confident in the water and addresses basic water safety. This class utilizes songs, games, and movement to engage your child safely in the pool. Students will learn to float with support and will be encouraged to get as much of their face wet as possible.
Level 1 - Introduction to Water Skills (Ages: minimum of 5 years old and must be in kindergarten or passed it)
For the beginner who is currently in kindergarten or passed kindergarten.
Level 1 focuses on teaching children to float independently and feel confident in and around water. Basic forms of the front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, and treading water are introduced.
Level 2 - Fundamental Aquatic Skills (Ages 5+)
This level is for children that have passed level 1.
Level 2 focuses on learning beginning forms of the front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, and treading water.
Level 3 - Stroke Development (Ages 6+)
This level is for children that have passed level 2.
Level 3 focuses on improving the technique of the front crawl, back crawl, and elementary backstroke in order to increase endurance. We also introduce diving, whip kick, and continue work on treading water.
Level 4 - Stroke Improvement (Ages 7-8)
This level is for children that have passed level 3.
Students work on increasing their endurance and technical aspects of the front crawl, back crawl, and elementary backstroke. They will learn the sidestroke and breaststroke, as well as receive a basic introduction to butterfly.
Level 5 - Stroke Refinement (Ages 9-10)
This level is for children that have passed level 4.
Students continue to build their endurance and form, as well as develop their breaststroke, sidestroke, and butterfly.
Level 6 - Swimming & Skill Proficiency (Ages 11+)
This level is for children that have passed level 5.
Students will work on mastering their technique, building endurance, and using swimming as aerobic exercise.
If you aren’t sure what level to sign up for please select the class that you know your child can do. The swimming instructors will move students up or down a class or two if deemed necessary.
