The legislation (2025-S 0771A, 2025-H 5598A) requires each public school to have a policy regarding the use of personal electronic devices on school grounds and during school-sponsored activities, including a prohibition on physical access during the school day, with exceptions allowed for assistive technology and other special needs specified in a students individual education plan (IEP) or 504 plan, for medical needs such as glucose monitoring or for emergent multilingual learners for language access programs. Exceptions shall also be made in the event of an emergency.

School Committee Policy JICJ: Students are required to power down and place their cell phones in a locked Yondr/magnetic pouch at the beginning of the school day. The pouch will remain with the student. The pouches will be unlocked at the end of the school day, allowing students to regain access to their phones.
YONDR POUCHES/CELL PHONES/SMART WATCHES
Yondr Pouches: In keeping with new state law/policy and school committee policy, Mt Hope High School is a cell phone free environment. This law and policy specifically limit access to cell phones/electronic devices meaning if the device is in the building, it MUST be in a YONDR pouch or turned into the office upon arrival. The purpose of the BWRSD Cell Phone Policy is to ensure a safe and productive learning environment for all students by minimizing distractions and promoting engagement during school hours. Students are able to access the Main Office if there is an emergency and they need to use their phone.
➤ Pouches are district property and are to be treated the same as a Chromebook.
➤ Lost or damaged pouches will incur a $30 replacement fee.
School Arrival:
➤ Arrive at school with phone and any wearable technology. This includes watches that connect to cell phones or have communication capabilities are to be placed in the student’s assigned Yondr pouch.
➤ Check in at Main Entrance or Mall Entrance to have an adult verify technology is placed in the pouch. Having pouch and devices out and ready will make arrival quicker for everyone
➤ There are NO LOANERS. If a student forgets their device they will turn in their phone/watch to our “Phone Valet”. This is a locked box that will be secured in the Dean’s office and Main Office for the day. Students will retrieve their devices at dismissal
➤ ALL students are expected to bring phones into school and place it in their Yondr Pouch.
Dismissal:
➤ There are Unlocking Stations in the following locations
➤ 5 at the Mall Entrance
➤ 3 at the Main Entrance (spread out along the A Hall)
➤ 1 in Athletics ONLY for the purpose of leaving early for an athletic event
➤ Students are to use an Unlocking Station as they exit the building
*Consequences for unmet expectations*
1st Offense -1 Day ISS, 5 Days of Social Probation, Turn phone in for 2 weeks
2nd Offense - 2 Days ISS, 10 Days of Social Probation, Parent/Guardian pick up phone, Turn phone in for 45 Days
3rd Offense - 1 Day OSS, 1 Month Social Probation, Parent/Guardian must pick up phone, Turn phone into office for remainder of the school year.
RESPONSIBLE USE OF TECHNOLOGY: Each user is responsible for his/her use of technology. Technology use is allowed only when permitted by a teacher. This includes use on school property, in school vehicles, at school sponsored events, or use of school/district resources via remote access. Student Device Expectations: Students are provided with district-issued devices, therefore, personal electronic devices are not permitted. This includes, but is not limited to IPads, MacBooks, and other personal electronics such as watches that connect to cell phones or have communication capabilities.
Earphones: Students may not use earphones except with explicit permission from their current classroom teacher.
