Professional Day 2 (9.18.17) of the Future Ready Librarianship focused on curating digital resources and tools, and redefining and aligning collections. Our guest thought leaders were Linda Conway, Director, Innovation & Design Center and Marci Milius, Learning Environment Designer, from Douglas County Schools.
We kicked off our session with Mobile Maker Kit exploration and play. Attendees literally unpacked a Kit and played with the tools and they shared ideas on how to integrate Kit components and resources into literacy investigations.
Linda and Marci led an activity filled session that included a lively discussion about creating responsive and aligned collections and how teacher librarians are uniquely positioned to create participatory learning experiences that expose students to future ready literacies including reading literacy.
Day 3 (10.13.17) of the Future Ready Librarianship got everyone thinking about empowering students as creators. Attendees played with the Extraordinaires Design Studio and got a taste of the design thinking methodology, requiring them to put the user at the center of the design process. The activity was a reminder, as we encourage and support students to share their learning and demonstrate mastery with the world, they need to combine creativity with empathy to create user centered solutions, experiences, and deliverables that resonates with their audience.
Heather Lister was our guest thought leader on Day 3. She shared a gallery of tools and ideas that can help move students from consumption to creator, teacher, author, and publisher. Attendees discussed how these tools can expose students to multiple literacies, ISTE standards, and BVSD Innovating Guiding Principles.
We wrapped up the morning with attendees contributing to Jennifer LaGarde's Future Ready Librarian Flipgrid. Attendees were asked to respond to the question, what's it mean to be future ready--2 minute video? Checkout how your colleagues responded to this question.
