Even if you aren't new, you are welcome to come for a refresher. It's going to be a crash course. I am always available for 1:1 meetings and instant coaching as needed.
First PD Day - August 13, all day
Details to come soon. For the sake of building your school level teams, TL's will be with participating with their school staff for PD.

Advocacy for the school library/teacher librarians will be especially important this year.
- Please review Shifting the Ways BVSD Libraries Work, Fall 2020. Digest the information and proactively plan how you can support students and staff this fall.
- The Library Advisory Council (LAC) has published an infographic called BVSD School Libraries COVID Response Plan (see below) for a quick summary. Schedule time to talk with your principal and staff about your plan and share the infographic.
- You may also want to share the slideshow (see Your Input Needed above).

- You guys were amazing this spring. I was confident you would meet the challenge and you all rocked! Please add a slide to this presentation describing how you supported students and staff during the Home Learning spring quarter. Feel free to share photos, documents, student samples in your slide. The audience for this will be district and building admin, as well as each other.
- Did anybody use the non-fiction ebook titles purchased with the CDE State Libraries Grant during Home Learning? Can you share your experience with me? I would like to share with the CDE State Libraries a story or two of how the grant helped us move to online learning.

- We will be using SeeSaw for PreK-3 and Schoology for 4-12 as our Learning Management Systems. Consider how you can help your staff unify and simplify online courses. Edutopia has a good article with suggestions.
- The MackinVIA tile on SSO has moved up. Clicking the tile will now automatically log students in to their MackinVIA account. MackinVIA has also been added to Schoology. Classroom teachers will see MackinVIA as a resource in their course shells. Secondary Language Arts will have a large selection of ebook and audiobook titles soon. Be ready to support staff in utilizing this new resource.
- Planning any anti-racism lessons?
- Diversity in Denver History at the Denver Public Library's Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library shared some digital resources.

Hi folks!
I hope everybody is enjoying their summer break! I’ve been keeping a running list of things that you might want to consider.
- To provide a more equitable access to audiobooks to students with reading barriers for classroom assigned titles, this year TL’s will be custodians of their building Bookshare accounts. Create your account on Bookshare.com. Explore and learn how to assign titles to your students.
- I found a fun site for bilingual ebooks: Check out The Fable Cottage (fairy tales translated by native speakers and modernized slightly). If you think it is a worthwhile tool, I will pursue getting district licensing.

- The remainder of the Colorado State Libraries Grant was used to purchase 141 Simultaneous Use titles on Sora aligned to Colorado Social Studies and Science curriculum, across K-12 grade levels. Thank you to TL's for contributing your mini-grants to these collections. Think about how best to leverage this year’s grant. I will submit the application in August.
- There is a Black Lives Matter collection on Sora. Three titles are currently available as a simultaneous use for free until July 15. Now’s your chance to read or listen to these titles.
- Along with the news around Black Lives Matter this summer, I’ve been reading about diversity audits in libraries. Here is a quick way to Conduct a diversity audit. It would be interesting to know what your collections represent and where they need to be filled out. I also have this spreadsheet that DPS uses to request new titles for their libraries. Would this be something helpful for you and your staff?
- All the studies and research show that books should be free of virus after a 3 day quarantine. How will you adjust your processes to allow this time delay? Science of virus on book surfaces
- Elementary TL’s - be prepared to teach Digital Citizenship for K-5. I recommend Common Sense Media and am currently creating narrated slideshows to load into Schoology.
- Seesaw is now a district provided tool for K-3. Learn how both the teacher side and the student side work. Be prepared to help parents if we are online in August. The district is creating informational tutorials and synchronous support for the first month or so, then schools/TL's will pick up. Can anybody volunteer to help with hosting office hours in August/September for parents to help them with the student side of our learning tools? Please email me.
