September 2018 Meeting Highlights

  • LAC meetings would move from monthly to bi-monthly (happen the same month as TL Workshops). This move is in response to feedback from previous LAC members who felt that much of our general communications could be conducted virtually.
  • Schedule meetings to update Elem and Secondary Content Connections
    • Work will take place over the course or 1 or 2 days at an off site location
    • LAC members want to mirror the crosswalks done for AASL and Future Ready Librarianship Frameworks
    • Content Connection work will be shared with all TLs for review and feedback before finalizing and publishing
  • LAC members requested we review the policy developed in 2013 for Fines/Lost Books for 5th to 6th and 8th to 9th graders - there was some questions about how to resolve fines and lost book fees as students move from elem to MS and MS HS.

Dec. 2017 | Jan. & Feb. 2018 LAC Meeting Notes

For the past several months the LAC meetings have been exclusively devoted to the process of aligning the BVSD Teacher Librarian job description to the BVSD 21st Century Librarian Characteristics. LAC members have used meeting time to:

  • Review of state and national standards for teacher librarians
  • Audit of state and national K-12 librarian job descriptions
  • Conduct a literature review on the role of K-12 librarians
  • Process feedback from administrators on their expectations for the role of teacher librarian
  • Write DRAFT job description for all TL review

It is our expectation that our upcoming Feb. meeting will focus on processing TL feedback to the DRAFT that was posted to the group on 1.16.18.
