Thanks Jon G. for hosting the January TL Workshop. For many TLs this was their first chance to see this amazing space and hear from Jon about the school's journey through the renovation process and the impact the transformation is having on the learning community.
Emily Cosmos, Literacy Specialist, Secondary Language Arts Coordinator joined us to provide an update on the Secondary Language Arts Adoption process. Emily shared the slide deck to the left outlining the adoption timeline and how Secondary TLs can lend their expertise as information processionals & literacy advocates to this process.
The TL voice is essential to conversations about diversity, delivery formats, and equitable access. Secondary TLs have two options for participation
1) Join school level literacy adoption and or participating on the District level Literacy Adoption Comm THIS LIST to find your Secondary Language Arts Materials Adoption Committee Rep for your school and contact them to learn how you can participate and contribute.
Please contact Emily directly if you are interested in participating in the District Literacy Adoption Committee work. There will be a meeting on 4.23.19 at the PDC, substitutes and lunch provided.
Maura and Regina book talked a number of titles to consider for your MS/HS collections. Each title is highlighted in the slide deck above and if there's an ebook or audibook version in OverDrive they have included a direct link. Appreciate the diversity of these recos and desire to include titles that mirror and reflect YA readers and appeal to even the most reluctant readers.
Rae announced her new title, Technical Services Librarian, which more accurately reflects the work and responsibilities she's been performing for the past 3 years. In addition to ongoing work supporting Insignia and cataloging, Rae's responsibilities have broadened to include:
Rae will continue to provide cataloging support, however, Insignia's Quick Cataloging feature will eliminate the need for the MARC Records Request sheet. Rae has documented the Quick Cataloging process HERE- this will allow you to get titles onto shelves and into students' hands faster!
Thanks to everyone that completed the BVSD Librarianship Survey. We received 42 responses, 88% response rate! The goal of the survey was to provide Dr. Anderson with a baseline of information about librarianship, library programming and services, and budgets across the district, in advance of his visit with us at the January TL Wokshop. As you know, Dr. Anderson was unable to join us and he has rescheduled for the March TL workshop. However, we are working with Dr. Anderson's assistant to find an alternative time to meet since TL Workshops conflict with BOE meetings.
Click HERE to see a DRAFT of survey results. This is NOT the final version of this infographic--it's a work in progress as we continue to parse through responses and additional data sources. Stay tuned...
