There were some amazing lessons and activities created for CS Week | Hour of Code to help staff and students experience the power of coding and making. Some of you kicked it up a notch by running a month of coding activities. Be sure to add any images, videos, and lesson plans to our shared CS Week_TLs folder (look for your school sub folder or add one if needed). Check out the videos fro Kim Butler at Birch and Loran Lattes at Whittier (see below).
CS Week | Hour of Code affords students the opportunity to experience not only content standards but ISTE and AASL standards as well as multiple literacies. Highly encourage all TLs to document all the standards students experience via these learn-by-doing activities and share with staff and parents. There's a lot more happening then just coding a robot going on here.
Episode 5 of the Dynamic Duos series features a conversation with Kelly Sain & Andrew Moore discussing the changes they are seeing in BVSD library spaces, programming, & the positive impact of staffing the collaborative hearts of our schools with licensed & endorsed teacher librarians.

"It might be hard for some to imagine kids gathered around old-fashioned game boards, given the popularity of video games and the ubiquitousness of Fortnight on high schools’ campuses. Part of the lure of Game Night, however, is the social interactions created when technology is not part of the equation...The first year we had six kids and now we’re up to 35 every other week, said Monarch Librarian and Game Night organizer Beatrice Gerrish."
