Rae and I are back from the Texas Library Association (TLA) Conference. We spent a week in Dallas with 8,000 public, academic, and K-12 librarians learning and sharing with one another on a variety of topics including collection development, curation, maker education, copyright, media/news literacy, design thinking, digital engagement, community outreach, OER, net neutrality, etc.
I was super lucky & landed an impromptu chat with library leaders Dr. Joyce Valenza (@joycevalenza,), Nikki Robertson (@NikkiDRobertson), and Jennifer Casa-Todd (@JCasaTodd) on "what's keeping them up at night" in K-12 librarianship. Tune into Episode 15 of Not A Rocking Chair Librarian podcast to listen to our conversation (see link below).
Over the course of 4 days Rae and I attended 40+ sessions and we will be sharing out more of what we learned at TLA via TL announcements, TL Workshops, etc., over the 2018-19 school year

Loran Lattes and Rae C. curated a list of pictures books that illustrate and model maker education concepts, skills, and traits. Rae shared the list with Mackin and Follett and they created BVSD MakerEd Book Lists so you can easily find these titles and order them for your collections. Remember, when you order books from a jobber, Mackin or Follett, they will arrive shelf-ready & MARC records will be sent to Rae in advance of shipment receipt.
Locate Lists:
Login to the vendor websites, then navigate to the appropriate lists (see image below).
Follett: Navigate to State Bibliographies in Titlewave.
Mackin: Under Title Lists, do a List Search for "maker."
