On Wednesdays we will have late starts days! This means that we will begin the day at 8:50 and end at our usual time (2:50).
The schedule below will be the schedule for Monday - Friday with a slightly modified schedule on Wednesday.
(Click on each section for a short description)
Student arrival and routines (putting away lunch, water bottle, jackets, etc.)
Morning meetings will be a time when students have the opportunity to build relationships, greet each other, share, and sometimes play a short game to warm up for the day.
This is also where I will give them a quick look at what our day holds.
We will also be incorporating some social and emotional learning during this time. This is incredibly important for every person in our classroom! We'll learn how to identify feelings, handle stress, calm our bodies and minds down, etc.
This block utilizes two weekly read alouds to cover a wide variety of literacy topics. This may include diving deeper into concepts like plot, theme, central idea, characters, settings, etc.
This block is designated for small, focused reading groups, literacy rotations that reinforce the skills and concepts covered throughout the week, and interventions!
Outside recess and snack break!
Fundations is our phonics curriculum where students will be working on letters, letter sounds, spelling patterns, etc.
Our writing blocks will be focusing on one of three genres of writing: narrative, opinion, and informational. We will explore a combination of shared writing, writing demonstrations, independent writing, and peer feedback.
Recess followed by lunch.
Quiet time is a short block where students may choose a quiet and relaxing activity to engage in. This break is important for them to rest and re-set their brains!
During this time we will do our full group math warm up and lesson, and complete our workbook pages and/or a math activity.
Math games is a time for students to do independent math practice through math games. Math games will be specifically targeting the skills that we are practicing this unit.
Students will rotate specials daily - your child might be in PE, music, or art during this time.
You can access the specials rotation calendar here.
Be sure to check out your child's work on the Art Website as well!
Free choice is a time when your child will be exploring, learning, and developing social and emotional skills through play! We have a variety of centers and activities that will be rotated throughout the year, including builing blocks, kitchen play, puzzles, painting, etc.
This is another important time for your child to build relationships with their class!
During this time, we often share thank you's to peers, do some reflection about the day, say positive affirmations, and give any other important information.
Students are dismissed for the day! Students will be dismissed through their classroom door at the end of the day.
Kindergarteners are not allowed to leave their classroom teacher at the end of the school day unless someone is there to pick them up. Please be sure your child knows who will be picking them up each day.
