Our very own Ivanka Guo created a music video for the piece Squirrel Chase by composer Carol Brittin Chambers. Mrs. Chambers was so impressed with this work, that she shared it on her own social media pages!

The Butler Band and Choir had their annual Winter Concert on December 7th, 2023. Thanks to everyone who made it an unforgettable experience for our students as well as our boosters for their help with coordinating our poinsettia fundraiser. See the program below!
The Butler Choir joined singers from Hinsdale Central High School, Hinsdale Middle School, and Clarendon Hills Middle School for an evening of rehearsal with renowned choir directors across the state of Illinois. for the HCHS Middle School Choir Festival! Butler students sang "Sunroof", and joined all of the other schools for an ending performance of "Bonse Aba". There were many Butler alumni represented in the festival, including Shahnoor Shafi (class of 2021) who introduced Butler Choir's performance. HCHS also hosted a reception for the parents of choir families before evening concert! Thank you to organizers Mrs. Burkemper and Ms. Ohshika for this fantastic opportunity.
Hinsdale Central High School hosted their annual Bandamonium event which included Butler Junior High, Clarendon Hills, Gower Middle School, and Hinsdale Middle School. The bands were treated to a night of presentations by the HCHS Marching Red Devils and combined to perform Feel It Still by Portugal, The Man and the Red Devils Fight Song!
The Butler Band and Choir travelled to Geneva on Friday, May 19th to perform at a Kane County Cougar's game! The Choir performed "Radio Ga-Ga" by Queen and the band performed their favorites: "Seven Nation Army" by the White Stripes and "Hooked On A Feeling" by Blue Swede. The kids had a great time and ate a ton of great concessions!
The Butler Band and Choir hosted their annual Awards Banquet at Casa Margarita in Downers Grove. It was a great way to celebrate their hard work this year as well as award deserving individuals that went above and beyond.
The 8th graders were also honored at the banquet. Once a Viking, always a Viking!
The Band and Choir had a great final concert on May 10th.
The newly formed 6th grade choir, Viking Voices, and combined choirs sounded amazing.
The Cadet band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, and combined bands also made a ton of improvement and sounded great!

The Viking Voices (7th/8th Grade) and 6th Grade Choir spent the morning with Hinsdale Central High School Choirs. They warmed up with the high schoolers, ate breakfast together, sang some of their concert music, and heard some beautiful performances by the HCHS Bass Choir, Chorale, and Chamber Choir! Thank you so much to Mrs. Burkemper and Ms. Ohshika for having us, and for providing refreshments and advice.
The Concert Band took a field trip to visit Hinsdale Central High school. The students were able to check out the amazing new facilities, watch the Concert Band rehearse, and then sat in and rehearsed with their top band, the Wind Ensemble! Big thank you to Mr. Kurinsky and Ms. Adduci for having us!
Big thank you to Mr. Bryan Hughey who came to give our Butler percussionists a clinic. He taught them the proper techniques to get better sounds on all of the percussion instruments!
Our saxophone section was lucky to welcome in Mr. Matt Kubek for a clinic. The saxophones worked on tone production and sound projection and truly sound amazing!
Huge thank you to Matt who welcomed his new baby boy in on Saturday. We are so grateful that he still made the time to work with us with his newborn at home.

Kyle Lin auditioned and was selected to perform in the All Illinois Junior band, an all-state honor band that selects the best middle school musicians. The new director of bands, Dr. Kevin Geraldi, was the conductor for the AIJB at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.

The District 1 Illinois Music Education Association hosted their annual honor Junior Concert Festival at Lincoln-Way Central High School on November 5th, 2022. Butler was well represented with 3 selected students: Kyle Lin on the Alto Saxopone, Rohin Mendi on Piccolo and Flute, and Naiyomi Shah for the chorus as a soprano.
The Junior Band was conducted by Dr. Erica Neidlinger from DePaul University.

This past Tuesday, the Butler Choir participated in the Hinsdale Central Choral festival! Students had the opportunity to perform with the high school singers as well as Clarendon Hills Middle School and Hinsdale Middle School. Thank you so much to the choir program at Hinsdale Central for welcoming us into your school and giving us such an extraordinary rehearsing and singing experience.

This past Thursday, Butler Choir students had the exciting opportunity to take part in the Illinois ACDA Middle School Honor Choir at Bradley University in Peoria. Along with a hundred other choral students across the state of Illinois, the singers had the pleasure of working with famous choral composer Jacob Narverud, who wrote one of their upcoming concert pieces. They spent the day rehearsing challenging four-part choral music with "Dr. Jake", while learning new techniques about choral singing and musicianship. At the end of the day, students had a Q&A with Dr. Jake about what it is like to be a composer, and they partook in a professional recording session where they performed the three pieces they rehearsed throughout the day.

On Wednesday, September 28th, Mrs. Mary Socall, the flute instructor at Hinsdale Central High School, presented a masterclass to our flute students. The students worked on their breathing, embouchure, and posture and Mrs. Socall performed for them. The flautists were very excited and learned a ton!
Illinois Summer Youth Music - 2022
The band and choir celebrated a fantastic 2021 - 2022 school year at Zazzo's for their first annual band and choir end of the year banquet. Many awards were given out, many laughs were had, and memories made. Thank you to each and every student in the band and choir for their efforts and for making this year unforgettable!

The BJH Jazz Band took a field trip on March 21st, 2022 to play for the senior residents at the Sheridan Senior Home! For their first performance, they did a fantastic job playing some swing tunes and well known songs such as Take On Me! Thanks for those who came out to support us - especially our principal, Ms. Zaniewski! We hope to get out into the community again!
Butler Choir enjoyed a wonderful visit from the Hinsdale Central Chorale, who recently performed at the 2022 Illinois Music Educators Conference. Butler students had the opportunity to warm up with the singers (including some BJH alumni!) and listen to Chorale's conference set, which included everything from western classical selections to the thunderous Bulgarian song "Ergen Deda". Thank you for sharing your music with us, HCHS Chorale!
Congratulations to students Rohin Mendi (pictured with Mr. Krejci to the left) and Daniel Razminia on performing at the IGSMA solo and ensemble competition that was hosted at Monroe Middle School in Wheaton, Illinois. Both students did outstanding jobs and received a superior rating of 1. We are very proud of you, keep up the great work!
The Butler Band and Choir hit the road last Friday to perform for the pre-game and first intermission at the Chicago Wolves game. It was Healthcare Heroes night and the music program was well supported with many parents and families coming to show their support.
The band played stand tunes such as: The Avengers, High Hopes, Industry Baby, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Seven Nation Army! The choir sang This is Me from "The Greatest Showman"!

The Butler band and choir put on an excellent winter concert on December 9th, 2021 where they played both afternoon and evening concerts. The band was fortunate to welcome students from HCHS in the evening to play with them and the choir was fortunate to have Mrs. Burkemper from HCHS play with them for the concert! On Saturday November 13th, 2021 the Illinois Music Education Association held its annual jazz festival which invited junior high through high school jazz students to play in one of their 5 honor jazz ensembles. Butler Junior High was excited to have Ronik Mendi in attendance to represent BJH as well as alumni and brother Rian Mendi representing Hinsdale Central HS. Ronik played guitar in Jr. Jazz Band 2 and Rian played guitar in the Jazz Combo.

On Saturday, November 6th, 2021, the Illinois Music Education Association Junior High Division held its annual District I Music Festival at Lincoln-Way Central High School in New Lenox, IL. Butler Junior High is happy to announce that 2 of our students attended! Anika Bhagwat was selected for chorus, and Rohin Mendi was selected for band on the flute!
The festival involved over 250 students selected from more than 60 schools throughout the southwestern metropolitan Chicago area.
The Band, Orchestra, and Chorus Festival Finale Concert was held at 3:00 p.m. in the Lincoln-Way Central High School Field House.
