Welcome to Barstow High School's CTE Department
Computer Concepts is a one year stand-alone course that introduces students to the world of computers, the Internet, and applications. Students learn about what it means to be a citizen of the online world and all the positives and negatives that entails. Microsoft Office and G Suite apps are learned at a deep enough level to get a certificate in them. We practice improving sight typing and speed using a program called Typing Club which comes with some cool game-like scenarios such as Ava and the Rabbit and ninja warrior boss levels. Other fun apps we touch on include Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Microsoft Paint 3D, EarSketch, Google SketchUp, Hour of Code and many more. Students learn the basics of how the Internet works, as well as ways you can avoid hurting yourself by using technology too much. Different projects are developed such as a business plan, resumes, opinion surveys, move-out-of-your-parent's-house budget, among others depending on the teacher you end up with.
