After reviewing the video by Mr. Knight I had a couple takeaways. One being that introducing yourself right away and calling and having a conversation with your school attorney is important to forge a good professional relationship from the start. I also thought it was important to note that the school attorneys want to have a personal relationship where it is not just call and seek the lawful answer to a problem and then be done. We need to work to build trust and communicate with them at conference and professional meetings and have small talk and build a solid relationship. Lastly, I took away the importance of using the school attorney as a source outside of your community to use as a sounding board that has no ties to the school or community. I also enjoy listening to Mr. Knight talk.
The senator video it was nice to hear that as Senators they do want to hear from us. I see the value in introducing yourself and inviting your senators to your school to show them and see who they are representing. It is good to have that relationship so if there are items as a school you want them to fight for you have that relationship in place. I also agree with the two senators that it is important as school district leaders to stay up to date on legislation and most importantly the legislation that impacts us as schools. I sympathized with them when they mentioned that school is the hub of the community and provides many jobs and is vital to the community success.
