The gifted program at Huston Middle School provides enrichment opportunities for gifted students and promotes interaction with students’ intellectual peers. The gifted program recognizes the unusual capabilities and learning styles of gifted students and promotes an accelerated curriculum. A Gifted Individualized Education Program (GIEP) is prepared for each gifted student.
A GIEP is a written plan describing the education to be provided to a gifted student. To fulfill the learning outcomes agreed to in a student GIEP, the following opportunities are made available to gifted students:
Enrichment activities and independent study
Group and individual research projects
Cultural enrichment activities such as attendance at theatrical presentations or museum visits
Opportunities for advanced and accelerated curriculum
