The Introduction to Law and Public Safety program will examine basic concepts of law related to citizens' rights and responsibilities. Students will be instructed in various areas, including, but not limited to:
The criminal justice system is the system that deals with apprehending, prosecuting, defending, sentencing, and punishing unlawful individuals who partake in criminal activity. The criminal justice system consists of three main parts, which are law enforcement, corrections, and judicial. All three play an important role in the criminal justice process and are interdependent.
Individuals in this component are responsible for upholding the law and investigating and apprehending suspects. Law enforcement must follow the U.S. Constitution and federal rules. Officers may arrest offenders, give testimony, and conduct follow-up investigations.
This component deals with individuals who have been convicted of a crime and ensures that a convicted offender serves their sentence as advised by the courts.
The individuals in this component work to ensure one's rights are not violated and a fair trial takes place.
