CLEP (the College-Level Examination Program) offers 34 exams that cover intro-level college course material. If you earn a passing score on the CLEP test, you can earn college credit. CLEP is sponsored by the College Board, the same organization that is responsible for Advanced Placement (AP) courses. It allows individuals with some prior knowledge in a college courses to earn the credit. This is a great alternative if you took an AP class and did not pass the exam at the end of the year. You will need to check with your college to see if they accept CLEP exams and what score is considered passing. CLEP allows you to save money since the exam is much cheaper than taking a college class.
Modern States is a non-profit dedicated to making a high quality college education free of cost and accessible to any person who seeks one. Their program Freshmen Year for Free lets students earn up to one year of college credit without tuition or textbook expenses. They are partnered with leading universities and professors to provide free courses to prepare students for AP exams and CLEP tests. Students can enroll and take classes to prepare for these exams. Modern States will also pay for the student to take the CLEP exam. Modern States has courses for 32 different CLEP exams.
